A misleading headline in the New York Times

The New York Times recently posted this article, with the headline reporting that young people no longer see themselves as Democrats.
The article quotes Kristin Johnson, a 23-year-old student at Colorado State University. She voted Democrat in 2008, yet in the ensuing two years since, she has moved away from the Democrat moniker.
Here, the thoughtful reader comes to a logical conclusion: If young people are moving away from the Left, then they must be moving to the Right, right?
No, the article turns on its head in the next paragraph.
"But she bristles just as much at the idea of being called a Republican," the writer says.
The fact is, that according to the Times, young people are moving away from labels in general.
"It's like picking a team when you really don't want to root for either team," Johnson goes on to say.
Yes, young people are moving away from the Left, as the headline suggests, but they aren't going anywhere. Young people are in a political limbo, yet the Times misguided readers with an erring headline.
And to go even further with the misinformation - all of the sources in the story are from Colorado State University.
Who knew that so-called "young people" everywhere identify themselves with the views of a few students in one town?
